X to Charge New Accounts in New Zealand and the Philippines
The social media giant is trying its "Not A Bot," a new subscription mechanism for new members, in two nations: New Zealand and the Philippines, according to X, formerly known as Twitter.
This new test, according to X, was created to support their existing enormous efforts to lessen spam, platform manipulation, and bot activity. This will assess a possibly effective countermeasure to spammers and bots on X while weighing platform usability against the minimal charge. Existing users are unaffected by this test.

For new accounts on the web in New Zealand and the Philippines, this new test will operate as follows:

Phone verification is the first step

In these two nations, all newly established accounts on X will initially need to have their phone number verified.

Choose your subscription plan in step two

  • Annual fee of $1 USD (prices vary by nation and currency). On the platform's web version, new users will be able to do a few things, including publish material, like posts, reply to, repost, and quote other accounts' posts, and bookmark posts.

  • X Premium

An optional, paid subscription called X Premium gives you early access to some functions, such as Edit Post, and adds a blue checkmark to your account.
Note: All X Premium features are immediately accessible, with the exception of the blue checkmark, which only appears on eligible profiles following verification that subscribing accounts satisfy all requirements.
  • X Verified Organizations

Businesses, nonprofits, and governmental organizations of all stripes can register with X Verified Organizations, manage their verification, and affiliate with and verify any related accounts.

Any organization that purchases a subscription to Verified Organizations will be given a square avatar with a checkmark in either gold or gray depending on whether it is a business, non-profit, or multilateral organization.

Organizations may also decide to affiliate any linked X accounts. An connected account is verified (identified by a blue, gold, or grey checkmark) and given an affiliate badge, which is a miniature version of the profile photo of their parent organization, which is shown next to the checkmark. This badge is a wonderful driver of followers from your whole network on X because tapping or clicking it sends users directly to the linked organization.

The only "read only" behaviors that new users who choose not to subscribe can perform are reading posts, watching videos, and following accounts.

This new tool seeks to protect against spammers and bots that try to control the platform and interfere with other X users' experiences.
