X Announces Audio and Video Calling as a New Feature
On the social networking site, users of X can now place and receive audio and video calls.
X unveils audio and video calling as a new way of communicating through its platform, which is currently only available on iOS and will soon be available on Android.

Audio Video Feature Highlights

  • Audio and video calls are available to premium subscribers.
  • Calls can be placed on any account.
  • The Direct Messages Settings allow you to decide who can call you.
  • If you've previously given X access to your address book, you can automatically get calls from accounts you follow or have in your address book.
  • A user must have sent you a Direct Message at least once before they can call you.

​To enable video and voice calls on X:

Go to Settings > Privacy & Safety > Direct Messages > Enable Audio & Video Calling

​​To call someone on iOS using audio or video:

1. Touch the envelope symbol. You’ll be directed to your messages.

2. Tap on an existing DM conversation or start a new conversation.

3. When you tap on the phone symbol, you can:
  • To initiate an audio call, tap Audio call.
  • To begin a video call, tap Video call.

4. The account you call will be notified that you are calling, and if they don't answer, they will be notified that a call was missed.

​To control an Audio Call

You can: When on an audio call,
  • To make the call on the speaker, tap the audio icon.
  • By tapping the microphone symbol, you can mute or unmute your microphone.
  • Tap the X button to end the call.

​To control a video call

You can: When on a video call:
  • By touching the flip camera symbol, you may alternate between the front- and back-facing cameras.
  • To stop using speaker mode, tap the audio icon.
  • By tapping the camera icon, you can turn off your camera.
  • By tapping the microphone icon, you can mute your microphone.
  • Tap the X button to end the call.

​How to limit who can contact you

1. Touch the envelope symbol. You’ll be directed to your messages.

2. To access your Messages settings, tap the settings symbol in the top right corner of the screen.

3. You can decide whether or not the audio and video calling capability is turned on in your messaging settings.

4. You can select who can call you if the audio and video calling capability is activated. You have the option to accept calls from:
  • Individuals in your address book
  • Your followers
  • Verified users
