PLDT, Inc., Smart Communications Strengthens its Strategy with Cybersecurity Vendors

The Cyber Security Operations Group (CSOG) of PLDT and Smart has convened with its technology providers to establish enhanced protocols and focal points aimed at fortifying the PLDT Group's cybersecurity safeguards and safeguarding consumers against cyber threats and cyberattacks.​

“We regularly talk with our vendors to keep them aligned with our objectives. As part of our cybersecurity value chain, PLDT and Smart must ensure that our solution providers have the technology and skills needed to keep our assets safe. We are not only protecting our customers but the entire country,” said Angel Redoble, Chief Information Security Officer at PLDT, Smart and ePLDT.

Moreover, CSOG has the chance to discuss with partners the high-priority areas in the cybersecurity ecosystem of the PLDT Group that require enhanced solutions to complement current technology during the yearly vendor summit. CSOG emphasized this year the value of exchanging threat intelligence in order to thwart an attack before it begins.

“Prevention is better than cure. We encourage our partners to proactively inform us of vulnerabilities to their systems so we can collaborate on a solution before they are exploited by threat actors,” stressed Redoble.

The PLDT Group's strong cybersecurity network successfully repelled over 16 billion threats and intrusion attempts in 2023. Additionally, around 65 million SMS messages were prohibited. Similarly, Smart blocked around 315,000 cell phone numbers from its service.

Working together with important partners to strengthen their digital infrastructure, PLDT and Smart are contributing to a larger initiative to protect consumers from dangers and intrusions.
