Metro Retail Stores Group Inc. (MRSGI) marked an important milestone in its expansion plans with the opening of a distribution center in Santa Rosa, Laguna. The ceremony signaled not only the start of operations at the facility but also a watershed moment in MRSGI's Luzon expansion initiative. The Metro Distribution Center, a three-hectare modern facility, is committed to enhancing MRSGI's supply chain and serving its present network of stores, laying the framework for the company's ambitious Luzon expansion plans over the next five years.
Several advanced features improve the center's functionality. These include a selective racking system capable of accommodating pallets up to 5 and 7 high, with a total capacity of up to 20,000 pallet positions, optimizing storage efficiency; 20 inbound and outbound docking areas equipped with dock levelers, ensuring seamless loading and unloading operations; and security, including over 130 CCTV cameras and several laser beam smoke detectors, providing comprehensive safety for personnel and inventory. Furthermore, the distribution center is outfitted with solar panel-ready infrastructure, a sustainable endeavor that matches MRSGI's commitment to environmental responsibility while lowering its carbon footprint. In terms of operational capability, the distribution center can handle up to 25,000 cases per day for both inbound and outbound processes, for a total monthly throughput of 1.5 million cases. This significant capacity successfully serves MRSGI's broad shop network in Luzon and the Visayas. The distribution center has plenty of opportunity for future expansion, with a defined expansion area on the 10-hectare land. This offering enables MRSGI to meet both internal requirements and possible external partners, ensuring operational flexibility and scalability. Mr. Manuel Alberto, MRSGI's Chief Operating Officer, emphasized the distribution center's role in the company's ambitious plan to expand its presence in Luzon, ensuring that more communities have access to the quality services and products that Metro is known for while also contributing to the local economy and creating job opportunities. "The significance of this new and modern warehouse transcends more than just logistics. It is the keystone of our ambitious plan to expand our Metro Store presence in Luzon, ensuring not only that more communities have access to the quality services and products that Metro is known for, but also for our company to keep, help, invigorate our local economy and provide employment," Alberto stated. MRSGI sees the opening of the Metro Distribution Center in Santa Rosa, Laguna, as one of many measures toward future-proofing its operations. MRSGI, with an emphasis on innovation and sustainability, is constantly looking for new ways to improve its skills and solidify its position as the Philippines' premier retailer. Metro Retail now operates 64 branches across Luzon and Visayas under the shop formats Metro Supermarket, Metro Department Shop, Super Metro Hypermarket, and Metro Value Mart.
