People in the EU, EEA, and Switzerland will have the option to access Facebook and Instagram ad-free by paying a monthly subscription fee through Meta. Users from the specified location can also continue to use these services for free and see relevant advertisements, according to the social media giant. In the EU, EEA, and Switzerland, Meta is launching a new subscription option in accordance with the regulations that are changing in Europe. Facebook and Instagram users who live in these locations will have the option to either subscribe to cease seeing advertising or continue using these personalized services for free in November, according to Meta. People's information won't be used for advertisements while they are subscribers, according to the social media giant.
According to Meta, people in these countries will be able to subscribe for a fee to use their products (Facebook and Instagram services) without ads. It will cost €9.99/month on the web or €12.99/month on iOS and Android, depending on where the user buys it. The subscription will work with all linked Facebook and Instagram accounts in a user's Accounts Center, regardless of where the user bought it. The pricing for iOS and Android accounts for the costs that Google and Apple impose through their own purchase policies, as is the case with many online subscriptions. The initial subscription includes coverage for any linked accounts in the user's Accounts Center through March 1, 2024. But starting on March 1, 2024, each extra account listed in a user's Account Center will incur an extra charge of €6 per month for web users and €8 per month for iOS and Android users. Why is Meta doing this? Meta says that they support an ad-supported internet that provides everyone, regardless of income level, with access to customized goods and services. Additionally, it enables small companies to expand their clientele, open up new markets, and grow—all of which contribute to the expansion of the European economy. Furthermore, Meta stated that they are dedicated to protecting people's privacy and security, both in accordance with its own standards and the EU's General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), regardless of whether users opt to use their products for free with advertisements or subscribe to stop viewing advertisements.
