Google Announced a New Site-Level Approval for AdSense for Search (AFS) Sites
You must add the site to your site list before you can do site-related activities on it, such as displaying advertisements on a new site or establishing site-level blocking restrictions. This is the latest announcement from Google.
As of March 4, 2024, Google announced that adding a new website to your AdSense account's Sites tab is a must for using AdSense for Search (AFS) to display advertising on that website. Google will verify that you are the owner of the domain or have the authority to edit its content for every new website. Google Publisher and AdSense Program policies will also be examined for compliance with the website throughout this process. This usually takes a few days, but in some cases, it can take 2–4 weeks, according to Google. Your website will be declared "Ready" once the checks are finished, at which point you can begin displaying AFS advertising.

As per Google, they are launching this change in several stages:

  • Any websites you presently have that you are making money from with AFS ought to show up on your AdSense account's Sites tab instantly. The deadline for submitting your sites for approval is August 30, 2024. During this interim period, ads will continue to operate as usual.
  • Before August 30, 2024, if you haven't submitted your sites for evaluation, Google will stop serving AFS advertisements until your site has been approved.

How to add a new site?

1. Sign in to your AdSense account.

4. Enter the URL of your site.

Note: As per AdSense, if your site is on one of their host partner sites (like Blogger), you'll need to go to your host partner to add your site to AdSense. If your site is on YouTube, you’ll need to go to YouTube Studio to add your site to AdSense for YouTube.

5. Once you're done, click Save.

Your site is added to your Sites page with a status of "Requires review".

6. Select a verification method to connect your site to AdSense, either via the AdSense code snippet, the Ads.txt code snippet, or the Meta tag.

7. Select the check box to confirm you've finished, then click Verify.

Note: As per AdSense, if your site can't be verified, make sure the changes you made to your site are published and accessible by the AdSense crawler. If you're still having issues, you can try a different verification method.

8. Click Request review.

Google will check that your site is ready to show ads. After Google checks are complete, your site will be ready to show ads.
