Globe Telecom Terminates 154K SIMs Linked to Fraud, 334.7% Higher Than in 2022

Using its Stop Spam reporting portal, leading digital solutions platform Globe Telecom blocked another record-high number of SIMs connected to fraud in the first nine months of the year. Globe Telecom saw a sharp increase in the number of SIMs from other networks being used for scam and spam operations. 

In the first nine months of the year, Globe Telecom blocked a total of 154,569 SIMs, of which 6,054 were deactivated from its own network and 148,515 were blacklisted from other networks. Comparing this to the 35,558 banned and deactivated SIMs over the same period last year, there has been a sharp increase.

Notably, banned SIMs—which comprise numbers from other networks—have increased dramatically this year, reaching 148,515 as of the end of September, up more than 667.8% from 19,343 at the same time last year.

​Meanwhile, there was a 62.66% drop in the number of Globe SIMs deactivated due to fraud linkages, from 16,215 in the first nine months of 2022 to 6,054 in the same three quarters.

​“With our proactive efforts via our Stop Spam portal, bolstered by the SIM Registration Law, we were able to block a new record high in SIMs linked to fraud. Through collaboration and the use of technology, we are gaining headway against these criminals,” stated Globe Telecom's Chief Information Security Officer, Anton Bonifacio.

​The company has made significant investments in cutting-edge spam detection and blocking technology. It has invested $20 million in its Security Operations Center, which operates around-the-clock to screen out unsolicited communications from both local and foreign sources, including SMS messages sent between individuals and apps.
