Globe Telecom Reports a Sharp 73.7% Decrease in Blocked Bank-Related Spam and Scam SMS

Globe Telecom has made significant progress in its continuous battle against financial crime, as seen by the remarkable 73.7% decrease in blocked spam and scam SMS pertaining to banks in 2023.​

In 2023, Globe prohibited 83.39 million SMS communications pertaining to banks, a significant decrease over the 21.9 million messages intercepted the year before. This achievement demonstrates the value of the company's aggressive tactics and strong alliances with the main banks and financial institutions in the nation.

Previously, Globe established anti-fraud agreements with the Bankers Association of the Philippines (BAP), which represents 45 major banks, and other individual participants in the finance industry. These agreements allowed for the rapid and intensive exchange of data and intelligence, coordinating efforts to better prevent and investigate fraud.

“This milestone not only highlights our commitment to combating financial fraud but also encourages us to continuously enhance our security measures for the protection of our customers," said Anton Bonifacio, Chief Information Security Officer at Globe.

Globe has made approximately US$20 million in investments to improve its spam and scam SMS detection and blocking technology. It also runs a 24-hour Security Operations Center to filter out unsolicited messages, including person-to-person and app-to-person SMS from both domestic and foreign sources.
