The top carrier in the Philippines, Cebu Pacific (CEB), brought in P90.6 billion in revenue in 2023—a 60% rise over the previous year. The passenger business, which had sales of P62.5 billion, 78% more than the previous year, spearheaded this sharp rebound. This comes after more than 20 million passengers and 140 thousand flights were conducted in 2023—figures that increased by 41% and 30%, respectively, from the previous year. With a year-over-year increase of nearly 9%, the seat load factor increased to 84%.
The total operating expenses came to P82 billion, a 20% increase from the previous year because of increased fuel and fleet-related expenses. In 2023, CEB received 18 new aircraft, growing its fleet to boost operational resilience and maintain capacity expansion. Digitalization and other attempts to support its customer-first policies are also included in its expenses. In light of these, CEB reported P8.6 billion in operating income and P7.9 billion in net income, both of which represent a considerable improvement over the losses sustained in 2022. Profits before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization—or EBITDA—rose sharply from P664 million in 2022 to P21.8 billion. Cebu Pacific had its highest revenue quarter ever in the fourth quarter, bringing in P23.7 billion, a 23% increase over the previous year. In contrast to the operating loss of P232 million in the same period of 2022, operating income in the fourth quarter of 2022 was P2.4 billion. In contrast to the P1.9 billion financial loss sustained during the same period in 2022, the fourth quarter's net income of P2.9 billion represented a positive development. “Moving forward, we are optimistic that Cebu Pacific’s solid 2023 financial results will set the foundation for a stronger financial performance in 2024” said Mark Cezar, Cebu Pacific Chief Finance Officer. On March 8, 1996, Cebu Pacific launched its maiden flight from Manila to its home base of Cebu. From its inaugural international flight to Hong Kong in 2001 to its inaugural low-cost long-haul trip to Dubai in 2013, it has remained dedicated to operating in the regions where Filipinos are found. With the delivery of its first ATR 72-500 in 2008, CEB was able to increase inter-island links and grow its network to become the largest in the Philippines. Additionally, the airline has continuously made traveling affordable for everyJuan by offering promotional tickets and its patented Piso Sale, which it introduced in 2004.
