Basic Energy Corporation signed a MOU with Pangasinan 1 Electric Cooperative for a Prospective 50 MW Solar Power Project

Basic Energy Corporation is planning a 50 MW solar power project in Pangasinan, which will include a Battery Energy Storage System (BESS). The projected solar power project will be divided into two phases, with the first phase involving the development and construction of 10 MW plus BESS. Phase 2, with a capacity of around 40 MW, will follow.

On January 30, 2024, BSC signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Pangasinan 1 Electric Cooperative (PANELCO I), which aligns with the project's planned development. The MOU is a cooperation between BSC and PANELCO I to conduct a Distribution Impact Study (DIS) and a Distribution Asset Study (DAS) on PANELCO I's distribution infrastructure.

The DIS and DAS are essential for optimizing distribution networks and increasing the reliability of PANELCO I's existing infrastructure. Furthermore, the DIS and DAS ensure that renewable energy resources are seamlessly integrated into PANELCO I's infrastructure, which is important for BSC's solar power project in the PANELCO I service area.

Given the difficulty of such integration, the DIS and DAS are considered necessary. These studies, which will be done in cooperation with PANELCO I, serve two purposes. First, analyze the compatibility of PANELCO I's transmission system and substations with the solar power plant's production. Second, to obtain insight into the current state of the transmission system, identify the necessary modifications for optimal performance in line with the solar power plant's energy output.

The signing of the MOU marked an important milestone in BSC and PANELCO I's shared commitment to providing clean and reliable energy to the province and beyond.
