GCash, the Philippines' leading finance super app and biggest cashless ecosystem, has received approval from the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) to let millions more Filipinos living abroad utilize the app with their international mobile numbers. Initially available in beta to users in the United States, Canada, Italy, the United Kingdom, Australia, and Japan, the BSP's approval now clears the way for the service's full rollout and expansion to ten more countries, including the United Arab Emirates, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Qatar, South Korea, Taiwan, Singapore, Hong Kong, Spain, and Germany.
“In 2024 and beyond, we are doubling down on our mission to serve our users beyond Philippine shores. With around 13 million Filipinos living abroad, we recognize and answer the need for them to be present for their families back home and remain in control of helping build the financial future of their loved ones,” said Ren-Ren Reyes, President and CEO of G-Xchange, Inc, the mobile wallet operator of GCash. GCash users in these 16 countries can register using their international mobile phones and a Philippine passport or other valid ID as evidence of identity. Once properly confirmed, people may finally help their relatives back home in a secure and easy manner by sending money for free (GCash-to-GCash), paying bills on time, and instantaneously purchasing load credits with a few taps on the app. “Thanks to BSP’s support, we are now able to provide our Kababayans across the globe access to financial services that would help alleviate difficulties in managing their finances and better support their families back home. We will soon be rolling out more services like savings, gifting vouchers, using their GCash for online payments, as well as more accessible ways to cash-in,” said Paul Albano, General Manager of GCash International. Aside from allowing overseas Filipinos to use GCash with their own international mobile number, the leading fintech startup has been increasing its worldwide touchpoints through a relationship with global payments platform Alipay+. The Philippine Finance Super App can be used to pay select merchants in Asia, including Japan, South Korea, Singapore, Malaysia, Hong Kong, and Macau, as well as Qatar, the UAE, the United States, and Europe's France, Italy, Germany, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom. In addition, the new GCash card, powered by international payments giant Visa, provides consumers with another cashless payment option when traveling abroad. The card is accepted by more than 100 million businesses in 200 nations and territories worldwide. GCash provides accessible financial products and services, including Send Money, Buy Load, and Pay Bills. Users can also take advantage of other new financial services such as GSave, GInsure, and GInvest to help them get started on their financial goals.
