The 8 office buildings totaling 354,000 square meters owned by AREIT, Inc. (AREIT), a REIT subsidiary of Ayala Land, Inc. have been certified by EDGE Zero Carbon, making the portfolio of Ayala Land and AREIT's offices the largest in the Philippines. The International Finance Corporation (IFC), the private sector division of the World Bank Group, is the innovator behind the Excellence in Design for Greater Efficiencies (EDGE) international green building certification program. The greatest EDGE certification available, EDGE Zero Carbon, is given to establishments that have used renewable energy sources to offset all of their carbon emissions. In comparison to the base case, it necessitates a minimum of 40% energy reductions as well as 20% savings in water and embodied carbon in materials.
The Glorietta 1 and 2 Corporate Center, Solaris One, McKinley Exchange Corporate Center in Makati, Vertis North Corporate Centers 1, 2, and 3 in Quezon City, and the 30th Corporate Center in Pasig were among the 8 AREIT buildings that received the EDGE Zero Carbon Certification. These awards were given in recognition of the buildings' improvements in energy efficiency (45.33%), water efficiency (49.07%), and embodied carbon material reduction (61.88%). “Our commitment to EDGE Zero carbon is a testament to the value we see in developing environmentallyconscious developments to ensure a more sustainable future for the country,” said Mariana Zobel de Ayala, Senior Vice President and Group Head for Leasing and Hospitality of Ayala Land, Inc., Director of AREIT, Inc., and Executive Director of Ayala Corporation. Ayala Land, Inc. and AREIT, Inc. guaranteed their commitment to expediting the shift to net zero by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the International Finance Corporation in September 2023. By 2025, ALI and AREIT hope to have established the largest EDGE Zero Carbon office portfolio in the Philippines by achieving EDGE Zero Carbon across 1.5 million square meters of office space. "We commend Ayala Land and ARElT on its latest EDGE Zero Carbon certification, the highest level for EDGE. This is a clear example of successfully translating climate ambitions into action and we look forward to seeing the rest of their office portfolio certified," said Jean-Marc Arbogast, IFC Country Manager for the Philippines. 88% of Ayala Land, Inc. and AREIT, Inc.'s office portfolio—or 1.2 million square meters of gross leasing space—is now powered by renewable energy, enabling its office locators meet their sustainable development goals.
