Renewable energy pioneer Alternergy Holdings Corporation (Alternergy) awarded China Energy Engineering Group Guangdong Electric Power Design Institute Co. Ltd. (GEDI) and GEDI Construction Development Corporation (GCDC), a Philippine subsidiary of GEDI, the Balance of Plant (BOP) Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) contract for its Alabat and Tanay Wind Power Projects, with a combined capacity of 163 MW. The Alabat and Tanay wind farms' design, engineering, supply of civil and electrical works, equipment transportation, construction, and installation are all covered under the BOP EPC contract.
Alternergy has two wind projects in Quezon Province, the Alabat Wind Project being its first, and the Tanay Wind Project being its third in Rizal Province. In keeping with Alternergy's expedited project pipeline and the Department of Energy's energy transition objective, both projects are anticipated to be operational by the end of 2025. “A very extensive and meticulous tender process was conducted for the BOP EPC contracts for the Alabat and Tanay Wind Projects. A great deal of consideration was taken to ensure that there will be synergies with both our supplier and contractor given our commitment and timeline under the Green Energy Auction 2 (GEA) award,” said Knud Hedeager, president of Alternergy Wind Holdings Corporation, Alternergy sub-holding company for wind portfolio. “It is almost all systems go for the construction of our latest wind projects with the wind turbine supply and BOP EPC contracts already signed,” Gerry Magbanua, president of Alternergy Holdings Corporation. “We are extremely pleased to partner with Alternergy which will boost our local presence in the Philippines. Alternergy’s Tanay and Alabat Wind Power Projects are awardees of the 2nd Green Energy Auction 2 Program of the Department of Energy. Construction of the projects is targeted to commence by the 2nd quarter of the year for target completion by the end of 2025. Alternergy is a renewable power pioneer with a portfolio of project companies engaged in different RE projects, particularly wind, run-of-river hydro, solar farm and commercial rooftop, battery storage and offshore wind projects. China Energy Engineering Group Guangdong Electric Power Design Institute Co., Ltd. (GEDI) was founded in 1958. GEDI is an international engineering and project contracting firm with National Comprehensive Class A Engineering qualification, and also serves as a decision-making consultant of the government of Guangdong province. GEDI is one of the top Chinese design firms and contractors with presence in more than 50 countries with more than 700 EPC projects worldwide including Southeast Asia, South Asia, Middle East, Easter Europe and Africa. In China, GEDI is engaged as an EPC contractor for various wind projects with total capacity of more than 7,500 MW, of which 6,000 MW are offshore wind power projects, and another two onshore wind power projects in Vietnam with a combined capacity of 300 MW. In the Philippines, GEDI is an accredited contractor of the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) for various transmission projects, and has undertaken various transmission lines and substations with voltage levels from 138k, 230kV to 500kV.
