The National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) and renewable energy pioneer Alternergy Holdings Corporation (Alternergy), through its wholly-owned subsidiary Alternergy Tanay Wind Corporation (ATWC), have signed the Interconnection Agreement (ICA) for the 100 MW Tanay Wind Power Project in Tanay, Rizal. In recent weeks, Alternergy has signed two ICAs in quick succession with the NGCP. This is the second one. An ICA for the dispatch of clean and renewable energy from Alternergy's 64MW Alabat Wind Power Project in Alabat, Quezon, was signed with NGCP at the beginning of April.
“The ICA signing for the Tanay Wind Power Project is a big step. We are delighted to receive NGCP’s approval to connect considering the current transmission challenges for any power project,” said Knud Hedeager, president of ATWC. “NGCP’s approval is a positive response to fostering connectivity for renewable energy projects and increased critical energy infrastructures,” he added. “Similar to the ICA for the Alabat Wind Power Project, NGCP stands to provide assistance to Alternergy’s Tanay Wind Power Project which will contribute substantial renewable capacity to the grid to bolster the country’s energy sufficiency and sustainability,” Anthony Almeda, NGCP president and CEO, said. “As the transmission network provider and system operator, NGCP’s mandate is to expand the capacity and reliability of the grid to accommodate new generation projects.” After the DOE awards the Certificate of Confirmation of Commerciality (CoCoC) and the commercial contracts—specifically, the balance of plant engineering, procurement, and construction contracts and the wind turbine supply agreement—are completed and signed, the Tanay Wind Power Project is ready to move into its development phase. By the end of 2025, Alternergy is obligated under GEA 2 to complete the Tanay Wind Power Project. Alternergy is a renewable power pioneer with a portfolio of project companies engaged in different RE projects, particularly wind, run-of-river hydro, solar farm and commercial rooftop, battery storage and offshore wind projects. With robust expansion plans in the next three years, Alternergy aims to develop up to 474MW of additional wind, solar, and run of river hydro projects.
