SM Supermalls, a renowned Philippine mall operator, demonstrates its commitment to sustainability by considerably expanding its Electric Vehicle Charging Station (EVCS) network. With the construction of stations at SM City Lucena, SM City Rosales, and SM City Sucat, the mall giant currently operates 111 EVCS in 62 malls nationwide. Also, SM Supermalls announced the upcoming EVCS at SM City Novaliches, SM City Batangas, and SM Center Las Piñas toward the end of September.
This development demonstrates SM Supermalls' strategic focus on helping the Philippines' increasing electric vehicle market. By offering convenient and accessible charging infrastructure, the company hopes to inspire more Filipinos to use electric vehicles as a sustainable mode of transportation. SM Supermalls is encouraging EV ownership by providing complimentary charging services at all EVCS stations, greatly lowering EV owners' operational costs. This cost-effective technique is intended to enhance EV adoption, which will help the national government's Republic Act 11697 (Electric Vehicle Industry Development Act, or EVIDA) to develop the EV industry. With a goal of 75 malls with EVCS by the end of the year, SM Supermalls has the largest EVCS rollout, indicating an active contribution to a cleaner and healthier environment by lowering the country's carbon emissions. EVs use lithium-ion batteries with a capacity of at least 100 kilowatt-hours of electricity, making them both cost-effective and environmentally friendly because they release no CO2. Since the project's inception in 2022, more than 10,123 unique consumers have visited 62 malls, and 357,874 kWh of electricity has been delivered for free. SM Supermalls' commitment to sustainability goes beyond EV charging. The company is continually researching and implementing numerous eco-friendly initiatives throughout its malls in order to build a more sustainable future for all. SM Supermalls is positioning itself as a corporate social responsibility leader and catalyst for positive change in the Philippines by establishing a strong EVCS network and embracing sustainable practices. SM Supermalls is the largest mall operator in the Philippines, with a nationwide network of 86 malls in the Philippines and 8 in China. The company is committed to providing exceptional shopping experiences while upholding its responsibility to the environment and the community. SM Prime Holdings, Inc.
