SM Prime, DENR Bolster Manila Bay Cleanup Efforts with High-Tech Trash Boat
In a combined effort for Manila Bay, SM Prime Holdings (SM Prime) and the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) attended the handover of a cutting-edge catamaran garbage boat to supplement the continuing struggle against water pollution. DENR received the boat on January 31, complete with necessary navigation and safety equipment, as well as cleaning supplies. The 30-foot catamaran will be managed by the DENR Metropolitan Environmental Office—South Zone, enhancing the agency's ability to fight water pollution and protect the vital maritime ecology.
This donation adds to the DENR's arsenal in its comprehensive attempt to clean up Manila Bay. The catamaran will allow for more effective clearance of floating garbage and rubbish, assisting in the overall endeavor to enhance water quality and restore the bay's biological health. The partnership formed with SM Prime demonstrates the effectiveness of public-private partnerships in addressing difficult environmental issues.

“This catamaran represents our unwavering commitment to environmental stewardship and our belief in the power of collaboration to create a sustainable future for our communities,” said SM Supermalls Vice President Engr. Liza Silerio, emphasizing the shared vision of both organizations. SM Prime's contribution complements the DENR's continuing activities, such as the Paranaque Adopt-a-River project, and emphasizes the value of joint efforts in creating long-term environmental gains.

The presence of DENR Secretary Maria Antonia Yulo-Loyzaga and other DENR officials demonstrated the agency's dedication to leveraging partnerships to achieve its environmental objectives. The catamaran will be essential in the DENR's ongoing efforts to safeguard Manila Bay from pollution and maintain its precious resources for future generations. This partnership exemplifies how both the private and public sectors may collaborate to address serious environmental issues and promote a healthier environment.
