San Miguel Led-Consortium New NAIA Infra Corp. (NNIC) Takes Over NAIA, Hits the Ground Running9/16/2024 San Miguel Corporation-led consortium NAIA Infra Corp. (NNIC) has officially taken over management and operation of Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA), as well as the duty of renovating the 76-year-old gateway. NNIC, a consortium that includes San Miguel Corporation (SMC) and Incheon International Airport Corporation, has committed to spending P170 billion to carry out its phased but ambitious plan to upgrade NAIA to world-class standards. This includes proposals to increase passenger capacity from 43 million to 62 million per year, as well as air traffic movements from 42 to 48 per hour.
Over the 25-year concession period, the PPP project is expected to generate over P1 trillion in revenue for the government. This includes the 82.16 percent income share that must be remitted to the government annually. Travelers can expect business as usual, with flights, check-ins, and other services operating normally. The NAIA's modernization plans, which include terminal reassignments and infrastructure renovations, will be completed progressively and strategically over the next few months and years. NNIC has promised the public that the transfer will go smoothly, with no interruptions to airport operations. Immediate Improvements (According to NNIC)
Long-Term Goals (According to NNIC)
NNIC President Ramon S. Ang acknowledged the challenges ahead but expressed confidence in the consortium’s ability to deliver. “We ask the public for their patience. This will take time, but we will work hard to make quick improvements within the first three to six months.” He emphasized the importance of collaboration. “With continued support and cooperation from the government, airlines, passengers, and airport staff, we can achieve all our targets and transform NAIA into an airport every Filipino can be proud of.”
