San Miguel Corporation (SMC) has issued a warning against unscrupulous people who pose as "accredited" suppliers with "valid" contracts, only to solicit money and fraud interested suppliers. The company stated that it has received reports in recent months that certain individuals acting as middlemen or agents for the company have been marketing bogus supply transactions for San Miguel projects in Central and Northern Luzon.
These frauds have been tracked in Bulacan, Tarlac, and Pangasinan, among other regions. The fraudsters allegedly solicit money from businesses interested in supplying materials to SMC projects in exchange for supply contracts for various projects. SMC issued a statement informing the public that the corporation and its subsidiaries only do business with suppliers recognized by its Corporate Procurement Group. It further stated that, as a matter of policy, suppliers and bidders, including potential ones seeking accreditation, are never required to pay any fees in order to be accredited or participate in any San Miguel Group bidding.
