Repower Energy Development Corporation Providing Scholarships, Giving the Dumagat Tribe their Share from Hydropower Operations
Repower Energy Development Corporation (REDC), a subsidiary of Pure Energy Holdings Corporation, is providing scholarships to students from the Dumagat Tribe in the province of Quezon — an initiative that is in line with its commitment to give back to the communities within its service area.
Four students will be granted scholarships by REDC to take up their tertiary education at the Northern Quezon College Inc. in Infanta, Quezon, and Calamba Doctors College in Laguna. Two students will study Business Administration, one student will take up a Nursing degree, while another student will take up a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education.

“Education is one of the key elements to attain a better quality of life, and we are committed to doing our part to ensure no Filipino will be left behind,” Eric Peter Y. Roxas, President and CEO of REDC, said. “By helping students get a college degree, we are providing them a ladder towards a fruitful professional career for themselves and their loved ones.”

In addition, REDC is executing the terms laid down in the Memorandum of Agreement (“MOA”) entered into with the Dumagat tribe, in cooperation with the National Commission on Indigenous Peoples (“NCIP”). Under the MOA, the Dumagat tribe will receive a percentage of the power REDC generates from the run-of-the-river hydropower plants it operates in Quezon Province.

A total sum of P241,122.65 was turned over to the Dumagat tribe elders in simple ceremonies, representing the Dumagats’ share from one hydropower plant alone. REDC, with 3 operating hydropower plants in Quezon Province to date, will turn over to the Dumagat tribe a much larger percentage by next year.

“Having the Dumagat tribe financially benefit from our operations will allow them to have additional financial resources to address the needs of their communities,” Roxas said. “This arrangement will also reinforce our commitment with the Dumagat tribe, given their long-term welfare will now become a bigger factor into the long-term strategy we will pursue for our hydropower plants.”
