The Philippine Stock Exchange, Inc. (PSE) registered a 49.9 percent increase in its first quarter net income to P381.71 million from P254.67 million in the same period on higher operating revenues and other income, as well as muted expenses. Operating revenues went up by 18.5 percent to P746.81 million from P645.49 million. This revenue expansion was aided by a 15.7 percent and 24.8 percent growth in trading-related fees and services fees, respectively. Both PSE and the Philippine Dealing & Exchange Corp. recorded brisk trading activity during the period. Fees from depository securities, which rose 5.9 percent, also supported revenue performance.
Other income was higher by 30.2 percent to P41.97 million from P32.23 million on foreign exchange gains and an improvement in the fair value of financial assets. Total expenses and costs, on the other hand, decreased slightly by 1.3 percent to P334.79 million from P339.14 million. “The market’s positive momentum may have been short-lived but the bullish stance during the first two months of the year helped lift our first quarter numbers. Despite the persistent global and domestic headwinds, we remain committed to our strategic roadmap and continue to pursue product, technology, and sustainability initiatives that will reinforce the Exchange’s long-term resilience and competitiveness,” said PSE President and CEO Ramon S. Monzon. On the product side, Global Philippine Depositary Receipts, derivatives, structured warrants, rule enhancements on exchange traded funds, initial listing through preferred shares offering, and securities borrowing and lending are on the pipeline. Development is also underway for PSE’s new trading engine, order management system, and disclosure platform.
