What Full Ownership Means for PLDT’s Network Strategy
Having full control over Radius allows PLDT to integrate key enterprise and residential fiber assets across high-density markets in the Philippines. Expanding Fiber Infrastructure Across Mega Manila Radius operates over 11,000 kilometers of high-capacity fiber optical cable deployed across Mega Manila, Clark, and Cebu. Bringing this network under PLDT’s direct umbrella gives the telecom giant immediate capacity boosts and greater redundancy for both its enterprise backhaul and consumer broadband services. Streamlining Enterprise & Data Transmission Services Radius brings a valuable congressional telecommunications franchise alongside extensive coverage in prime business districts, commercial hubs, and high-end residential communities. PLDT can now directly cross-sell service suites, consolidate operation centers, and remove inter-company coordination overhead. Synergies Within the Pangilinan Group Because both PLDT and Meralco operate under the umbrella of the First Pacific group led by Manuel V. Pangilinan, consolidating Radius inside PLDT centralizes all fiber telecom operations under a single corporate roof. Meralco can sharpen its focus on core energy distribution, while PLDT drives the infrastructure roadmap for data services. Broader Market Impact This transaction marks one of the year's significant telecom consolidations in the Philippines. As demand for high-speed fiber internet and enterprise data transmission continues to surge across urban centers, owning 100% of Radius reinforces PLDT's market leadership against aggressive competition in the fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) and business broadband segments. Expect operational integration to begin immediately, with potential brand alignments and service bundled offerings rolling out in the coming quarters.
