PLDT Inc. and its wireless unit Smart Communications, Inc. (Smart) are strengthening partnership with the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) to accelerate the digital transformation of micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) in the Philippines. Over 30,000 small businesses and cooperatives across the country have been trained on technology-based solutions through the PLDT Group's capacity-building programs, promoting business growth and resilience.
"One of PLDT's main goals is to help build a stronger, more inclusive economy for all Filipinos. This is why we work closely with the DTI to help small businesses reap the benefits of new and emerging tools, maximize their income, and secure themselves in the digital world," said Manuel V Pangilinan, Chairman and CEO of PLDT and Smart. Since 2023, PLDT and Smart have spearheaded the eBiznovation program, which aims to provide digital skills to local businesses, allowing them to expand their market presence and increase efficiency. Small enterprises in Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao have benefited from training in cybersecurity, digital platforms, e-commerce, and social media marketing. In July, the PLDT Group's corporate business arm, PLDT Enterprise, collaborated with the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) to create MSME Day, a nationwide roadshow to assist business owners in embracing digitization. MSME Day provided business owners around the country with access to training and resources that will help them thrive in the digital era. This initiative demonstrates PLDT and Smart's commitment to provide MSMEs with the skills and information they need for long-term growth and transformation. Earlier this year, PLDT, Smart, and Maya Philippines established a partnership with DTI to support the Tindahan Mo, e-Level Up Mo Sari-Sari Store Advancement Program, which offers free webinars to more than a million small-business owners. This campaign educates business owners on how to increase their capital using digital items such as Smart e-load. Furthermore, the PLDT Group's corporate business arm, PLDT Enterprise, and social outreach arm, PLDT-Smart Foundation (PSF), introduced the PSF Smart Cart—customized vending pedicabs outfitted with Smart Retailer Kits and Maya Digital Services. The PSF Smart Cart is intended to provide business-minded individuals with a full income package. All of these activities are consistent with the Philippine government's greater objective for statewide digitalization. By stimulating innovation, improving cybersecurity, increasing financial inclusion, and collaborating with key stakeholders such as the DTI, PLDT, and Smart are contributing significantly to the nation's economic recovery and progress.
