PLDT Launches 'Always On' New Hybrid Modem

This recently announced hybrid modem is among the first of its kind in the world, and it is capable of switching a customer's connection from fiber to LTE in the event of an outage. The device can give rates of up to 1 Gbps and has unlimited LTE for backup.

“We call this ‘Always On.’ In the event of a service interruption, you don’t need to worry about losing access to the internet. Even with a severed cable, you will stay connected and pursue your online activities with minimal interruption,” said Jeremiah de la Cruz, Senior Vice President and Head of Home Business Group at PLDT.

When the device detects downtime and switches to LTE, the new Always On modem will automatically file a service repair ticket, eliminating the need for users to report service outages.

We wanted to create a product that was responsive to the needs of our customers. We believe this will help elevate the internet standard in the country,” added de la Cruz.

Following the launch of Gigabit Fiber options with speeds of up to 10Gbps, PLDT Home is now focusing on increasing customer service, network reliability, and customer loyalty. Home intends to boost customer retention, which was already above the industry average in 2023.

PLDT has set aside between P75 billion and P78 billion for capital expenditures this year for mobile, port expansion, data centers, and submarine cables.

PLDT Inc. runs the country's most extensive and robust fiber infrastructure, which now covers over 1.1 million cable kilometers, including about 0.2 million cable kilometers of international fiber and around 0.9 million cable kilometers of domestic fiber as of December 2023. PLDT's fiber backbone underpins Smart's mobile network across the country, providing customers with a fast and reliable internet experience on both fixed and mobile devices.
