PLDT and Smart empower farmers with AI and cybersecurity skills at Agri Asenso forum

Farmers and agripreneurs gained new insights on how artificial intelligence (AI) can transform their work, as PLDT Inc. and Smart Communications, Inc. (Smart), in partnership with the Department of Agriculture–Agricultural Training Institute (DA-ATI), led discussions at the Agri Asenso: ATI Learning Sites Product Expo and TechnoForum held recently.

The event brought together agripreneurs, farmer associations, and stakeholders from various sectors to explore how technology can transform agricultural practices and improve market access. PLDT and Smart showcased practical applications of AI in agriculture, emphasizing how farmers can harness digital tools to enhance productivity and expand their reach to broader markets.

Orlino, AVP and Head of Stakeholder Engagement at PLDT and Smart. “Through initiatives like the Digital Farmers Program and our collaboration with DA-ATI, we are helping bridge the digital divide and empower communities with knowledge and tools that can improve their livelihoods.”

Another highlight of the forum was PLDT and Smart’s #BeCyberSmart module, a cybersecurity education initiative designed to equip farmers with the knowledge to navigate online platforms safely. The module provides practical tips on identifying scams, protecting personal information, and building trust in digital transactions.

Local farmer and entrepreneur Astralet “Astra” Marbella, owner of Mikastra Integrated Farm, shared her experience: “Thanks to PLDT and Smart, we've learned new ways to improve our method to market our farm products. It's also enlightening to learn about different scams and how to protect ourselves from these varied scams and fake videos.”

This initiative builds on the success of the Digital Farmers Program (DFP), launched in 2019 in partnership with DA-ATI. The program aims to promote digital inclusion by equipping smallholder farmers with Information and Communications Technologies (ICT) skills, thereby expanding their livelihood opportunities and enhancing agricultural productivity.
