As artificial intelligence becomes increasingly embedded in how knowledge is produced and shared, PLDT Inc. and Smart Communications, Inc. reaffirmed their commitment to digital integrity by engaging young Filipino researchers on the responsible use of emerging technologies.
This commitment was underscored at the recently concluded 6th De La Salle University–Dasmariñas High School Research Conference, which brought together around 1,000 senior high school students from schools across the country. The forum served as a platform for critical conversations on research ethics, media literacy, and credibility in the age of artificial intelligence.

Roby Alampay, First Vice President and Head of the Public Engagement Group of PLDT and Smart, shared his insights on the responsible use of AI in research, emphasizing that accountability remains essential as AI tools become more accessible in academic and professional work.

“For me, accountability is very important, especially now in the age of AI. All of us must have a sense of accountability,” Alampay said. “You can use AI all you want, but in the end, you must be accountable. If you have that mindset, it will keep you responsible, and that will make you a better professional.”

Championing accountability and responsibility in AI use is corollary to the PLDT Group’s broader push to extend AI upskilling through digital empowerment programs such as AI-in-a-Box. Launched in 2025, the program has equipped many organizations and communities nationwide with the tools, connectivity, and trainings that help drive practical, day-to-day applications of AI.

The DLSU-D session was delivered in partnership with the #ThinkAMuna Pilipinas movement of MediaQuest, promoting responsible digital behavior, critical thinking, and respectful online engagement. The initiative continues to drive conversations around trust and credibility as digital technologies evolve.

Other conference speakers, including MediaQuest Communications Consultant Mon Isberto, MediaQuest Head of Corporate Affairs and Communications Atty. Charles Lejano, and One News Anchor and Business News Editor Regina Lay, addressed the growing importance of media literacy and critical thinking in navigating artificial intelligence, misinformation, and fake news. Their discussions reinforced the need to equip students with the skills to question, verify, and assess information responsibly.

Through initiatives like this, PLDT and Smart continue to demonstrate leadership beyond connectivity—helping shape a future where innovation is guided by ethics, accountability, and a strong commitment to truth.
