Farmers can soon receive indemnity payouts thru leading e-wallet platform GCash. This favorable development looms after state insurer Philippine Crop Insurance Corp. and G-Xchange, Inc., owner of GCash, signed a Memorandum of Agreement on January 24, 2025 to formalize a partnership enabling PCIC to utilize GCash Funds Disbursement Service to release indemnity payments to farmer-beneficiaries. “This partnership with GCash marks a transformation on how we will deliver our services to our farmers, especially in the manner of distributing our indemnity payments to them,” PCIC President Atty. JB Jovy C. Bernabe said during MOA signing ceremonies at the GCash Headquarters in Taguig City.
This means farmers can receive indemnity payments, without the hassle of going to PCIC offices and check distribution activities, and encashing their checks. He adds that the partnership is a big step to giving farmers in remote areas access to financial services and boosts PCIC’s push for digitalization of its operations. Further, Bernabe pointed out that access to GCash’s digital ecosystem” is a step toward empowering our farmers.” “GCash can help farmers manage their finances more efficiently by using many GCash features like a cashout option, online payments, and even access to micro-financing,” Bernabe said. Bernabe led the PCIC officials during the signing ceremony. With him were Senior Vice President Segundo Guerrero, Jr., Vice President for Support Services Group Allan Retamar, and Vice President of the Corporate Business Affairs Group Melba Manalo. G-XChange was represented by President and CEO Oscar Enrico Reyes, Jr., Head of GCash for Business Edgardo R. Layug Jr., Cluster Head for Public Sector Cleo Celeste Santos, and GCash’s Manager for Public Sector of National Government Accounts Alda Lou Cabrera.
