Manila Water Company formalizes its membership in the United Nations Global Compact (UNGC) through the ceremonial signing of UNGC Principles on January 24, 2025, in Balara, Quezon City. Jocot de Dios, President and CEO of Manila Water, signed the Pledge of Commitment to the UNGC, which specifies the principles that underpin responsible and sustainable business operations. Victoria Tan, Chairperson of the Global Compact Network Philippines (GCNP), and Sarah Bergado, Director of Sustainability at Manila Water Corporate Center, joined him during the event.
“There’s a lot that we can contribute as a water utility company. We are looking forward to our next steps. Thank you very much for seeing us as a worthy member of this movement,” Manila Water President and CEO Jocot de Dios said during the ceremony. With the signature of the compact, Manila Water joins a global network of businesses that adhere to the UNGC's guiding principles, which include the preservation of human rights and the environment, the improvement and enforcement of fair labor standards, and the fight against corruption. “At this point, water is the next world problem aside from climate change. It’s good that we have Manila Water who will be championing for us,” GCNP Chairperson Victoria Tan said. The UNGC is the world's biggest corporate sustainability initiative, with over 20,000 companies involved, 5 regional hubs, and 63 country networks covering 80 countries.
