The Visayas Container Terminal (VCT), operated by International Container Terminal Services, Inc. (ICTSI) in the Port of Iloilo, welcomed the first gearless vessel to call in the Western Visayas Region. The MV Otana Bhum, operated by Regional Container Lines (RCL), arrived at VCT for the first time on January 9, ushering in a new era in Visayas port operations and commercial connections. The call emphasizes VCT's expanded capabilities with the September 2024 delivery of two brand-new mobile harbor cranes (MHC) as part of ICTSI's commitment to developing and modernizing the terminal's infrastructure. The MHCs are intended to meet the most recent shipping rules, allowing VCT to serve bigger gearless boats.
The MV Otana Bhum has a total length of 147 meters and a capacity of 1,022 containers. It operates on the RCL Singapore-Philippines 6 (RSP6) route, which visits Singapore, Iloilo, Zamboanga, Cebu, and Tagoloan ports and connects significant regional and international commerce hubs. “The arrival of RCL’s Otana Bhum not only highlights our port’s world-class capabilities but also demonstrates our commitment to fostering economic growth in the region. This development positions Iloilo as a key player in the Visayas, offering enhanced connectivity and efficient services for shipping lines and stakeholders,” said John Largo, VICT chief executive officer. The vessel's arrival marks a big step forward for the whole Visayas area, paving the way for more trade prospects, simplified operations, and improved worldwide connections. VCT's modern facilities and ICTSI's ongoing investments reflect a shared ambition of making Iloilo a major international gateway, eliminating dependency on transshipment ports, and providing direct access to global markets.
