Total healthcare benefits and claims paid out by health maintenance organizations (HMOs) amounted to P36.29 billion during the first half of 2025. This is a 19.63% increase from the P30.33 billion paid out in healthcare benefits and claims during the same period last year. “Total Expenses (including Income Tax) increased by 19.53% or P7.44 billion to P45.56 billion, of which 79.64% or P36.29 billion are Healthcare Benefits and Claims, marking an increase of 19.63% during the first half,” the Insurance Commission (IC) said in a statement. Despite the big increase in the payout of healthcare benefits, the HMO industry continued its return to profitability due to higher revenues. During the first half, total revenues generated by HMOs amounted to P47.03 billion. Total net income as of the end of the first half amounted to P1.47 billion, or a 131.12% increase from the net income registered during the same period last year.
