IMAGE courtesy of Meralco The Gokongwei Group has renewed and expanded its partnership with Meralco-affiliated retail electricity suppliers—MPower and Vantage Energy—ensuring the continued delivery of reliable and increasingly sustainable power to its key businesses across the country. The collaboration supports the Gokongwei Group’s broader sustainability goals while advancing both organizations’ efforts to drive national development through responsible energy use.
Under the expanded contract, MPower will continue to serve major Gokongwei Group facilities within the Meralco franchise area. These include operations under JG Summit Holdings, Inc. such as Robinsons Land Corporation, Universal Robina Corporation, JG Summit Olefins Corporation, RL Commercial REIT, Inc., and Cebu Pacific; and Robinsons Supermarket Corporation under Robinsons Retail Holdings, Inc. MPower provides electricity to contestable customers—large electricity users such as commercial and industrial operations that are eligible to choose their own power supplier under the government’s Retail Competition and Open Access (RCOA) framework. As one of these major customers, the Gokongwei Group has relied on MPower since 2013 for competitive and reliable electricity solutions, while progressively integrating more renewable energy into its operations. Complementing this arrangement, Vantage Energy—Meralco’s affiliate licensed to operate outside the traditional franchise area—will power 37 additional Gokongwei Group properties nationwide. The new contract covers a wide range of sites operated by Robinsons Land Corporation, Robinsons Supermarket Corporation, and Universal Robina Corporation. Several of these locations are already transitioning to partial renewable energy supply as part of the Group’s sustainability roadmap. “This commitment to renewable energy empowers the Gokongwei Group to wholeheartedly pursue our sustainability targets, knowing that we have strong, forward-thinking partners aligned with our environmental stewardship goals,” said Lance Y. Gokongwei, President and CEO of JG Summit Holdings, at the signing ceremony with Vantage Energy. Speaking on the partnership with MPower, he shared: “This agreement goes beyond securing a reliable power supply – it represents our collective commitment to sustainability and innovation. With MPower as our partner, we are able to integrate a 60% renewable energy solution into our operations. This is a meaningful step forward in our journey to reduce our environmental impact while continuing to serve Filipino communities through our businesses.” This latest collaboration highlights the long-standing relationship between the Gokongwei Group and Meralco, rooted in shared priorities such as sustainability, innovation, and nation-building. “Our two groups have shared more than just business interests over the years—we’ve shared a deep commitment to nation-building, innovation, and service to the Filipino people. Through all the changes, one conviction has remained constant: that companies like ours must do more than generate value – we must create impact. This partnership with JG Summit Holdings, through MPower, reflects that shared purpose as we work together to empower communities and contribute to a stronger, more sustainable Philippines,” said Meralco Chairman and CEO Manuel V. Pangilinan. That shared purpose extends to Meralco’s retail affiliates as well. With the Gokongwei Group expanding its energy procurement outside Meralco’s franchise area, Vantage Energy has taken on a larger role in powering the Group’s operations across the country. “Our partnership spans over half a decade now, and we’re honored to be entrusted with additional contestable properties—some of which are already transitioning to renewable energy supply. This expansion reflects our aligned commitment to transforming shared values into meaningful, measurable progress toward a sustainable future,” said Vantage Energy President Ernesto M. Cabral. Together, these partnerships show how aligned business goals—backed by infrastructure and expertise—can deliver measurable progress in sustainability while supporting the operational needs of some of the country’s most dynamic companies. “Apart from the shared business interest, we do share as well a deep commitment to nation building and a deep commitment to the service of our people and the improvement of the lives and welfare of the Filipino,” Pangilinan concluded. With both MPower and Vantage Energy as partners in progress, the Gokongwei Group ensures its facilities are powered reliably, competitively, and with a growing focus on renewable energy, supporting the Group’s pursuit of transformative sustainability and shared success. |
