Globe Telecom Wins Best Network Reliability Solution at the 5G Core Awards

Globe Telecom, the Philippines' leading telecoms and digital solutions provider, has won the Best Network Reliability Solution at the 5G Core Summit Awards, which were presented by global IT market analysis firm Informa Tech.

The award recognizes the mobile operator that "has achieved exceptional stability and reliability in its network infrastructure" and "demonstrates excellence in maintaining high performance across diverse regions, understanding and meeting user expectations, and minimizing downtime," according to the awards website.

​The recognition is a nod to Globe’s pioneering efforts to build up its 5G network, with its outdoor coverage reaching 98.45% in its capital region and 94.19% in key cities across its two other major island groups, Visayas and Mindanao, as of June 2024.

Globe became the first Philippine telco to deploy the most advanced 5G technology, End-to-End (E2E) Network Slicing Function of 5G Standalone (SA), earlier this year, paving the way for a variety of applications, including high-bandwidth activities like video streaming, virtual reality, and the Internet of Things (IoT).

The awards were presented during the 5G Core Summit (5GCS) in Dubai, where Globe reported ground-breaking advances in developing a highly reliable and resilient 5G core network, assuring exceptional service continuity for its clients.

Globe, a pioneer in the Philippines' 5G rollout, has continually invested in cutting-edge technologies and is expanding its 5G network coverage throughout major cities.

This network is based on three pillars: NF high-reliability, network high-reliability, and data high-availability—which allow it to endure considerable signaling traffic spikes and efficiently move operations between data centers. Globe's core network is also designed to be resilient in the face of extreme events such as disasters, maintaining service availability even after numerous failures.

Globe is now looking into new ways to increase network stability by anticipating and preventing possible problems before they arise. This involves forecasting problems in real time and automatically identifying their sources to minimize service delays. The first stage is to implement digital twin technology, which provides real-time visibility into the network's state. This enables proactive monitoring, early problem discovery, and speedier fault resolution.
