Globe Telecom is promoting sustainability throughout its supply chain by providing vendors with training, tools, and technology to ensure compliance with global environmental, social, and governance (ESG) standards. The telecom leader encourages its vendors to embrace sustainable practices through capacity-building programs, allowing them to gain a competitive advantage while meeting changing customer needs and regulatory standards.
Countries throughout the world, including the Philippines, have made it necessary for publicly traded corporations to report on sustainability. Globe hopes that regulatory reforms will help equip its suppliers to meet growing sustainability standards. Globe's internal Sustainability Academy prepares suppliers to implement sustainable practices while addressing major problems such as knowledge gaps and technical skills. Globe and givvable, a data and insights platform for supplier sustainability, recently co-hosted the webinar "Beyond Business as Usual: Building a Sustainable Future," which was attended by around 170 representatives from over 50 vendors, with 81% being local suppliers. Globe's Sustainability and Social Responsibility Head, Apple Evangelista, discussed carbon-reduction strategies in the telco industry. Meanwhile, Naomi Vowels, the co-founder and director of givvable, studied the use of automated technologies for supplier sustainability and ESG diligence. The webinar also featured useful insights from recognized professionals who explored incorporating sustainability into the supply chain and presented an overview of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and their calculation. The GHG accounting module resonated strongly with participants, prompting some to commit to implementing sustainability guidelines, reviewing their products and services, and sharing knowledge within their organizations. "Sustainability requires deliberate efforts, supported by awareness, dedication, and collaboration. Our Academy enables suppliers to take meaningful steps toward achieving shared sustainability goals,” said Jerry Cabiles, Head of Globe’s Procurement and Logistics. Globe also uses givvable to evaluate the ESG performance of its top 300 suppliers, who are chosen based on expenditure. givvable is an Australian AI-powered data platform that screens and validates suppliers' ESG practices. The effort seeks to increase value and effect by upholding supplier vigilance and aligning activities with sustainability standards. The platform also includes topics on issues including carbon footprint reduction, circular economy, and ethical sourcing. “givvable brings visibility to the ESG performance of your suppliers, enabling you to make informed choices that align with your sustainability values and business goals. By leveraging our platform, companies can foster a sustainable supply chain, mitigate risks, and contribute to a better future for all," said Vowels. Globe intends to expand its Sustainability Academy to reach more suppliers, deliver advanced training modules, and increase supplier participation. Globe's goal in building a sustainability culture is to establish a resilient, responsible supply chain that contributes to a sustainable future. |
