Cebu Pacific (CEB), the Philippines’ leading carrier, has signed a binding Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Airbus for the purchase of up to 152 A321neo aircraft for USD $24 billion (P1.4 trillion) based on list prices, the largest aircraft order in Philippine aviation history. CEB has selected Pratt & Whitney GTF™ engines to power the future aircraft. The MOU covers firm orders for up to 102 A321neo, plus 50 A320neo Family purchase rights.
“The order is designed to provide Cebu Pacific with maximum flexibility to adapt fleet growth to market conditions, with the ability to switch between the A321neo and A320neo,” said CEB Chief Executive Officer Michael Szucs. “When finalized, the deal will be a significant milestone for the local airline industry and a testament to CEB’s unwavering commitment to support the Philippine growth story.” The purchase agreement to finalize this transaction is expected to be completed in the third quarter of the year. Cebu Air, Inc. (CEB) was founded on August 26, 1988, as an airline operating under the trade name "Cebu Pacific Air." CEB established the "low fare, great value" strategy in the local aviation business. In 2005, the company embraced the low-cost carrier business model, which aims to provide passengers with economical aviation transportation. In 1991, the company was granted a 40-year legislative license to provide international and domestic air transportation services. CEB began scheduled passenger operations in 1996 with its maiden domestic trip from Manila to Cebu. International operations began in 2001, with flights from Manila to Hong Kong. As of December 31, 2022, CEB's route network includes 70 domestic routes and 22 international destinations, with a total of 2,694 planned weekly flights. Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminals 3 and 4 in Pasay City; Mactan-Cebu International Airport in Lapu-Lapu City, Cebu; Diosdado Macapagal International Airport in Clark, Pampanga; Davao International Airport in Davao City, Davao del Sur; Ilo-ilo International Airport in Ilo-ilo City; Kalibo International Airport in Kalibo, Aklan; and Laguindingan Airport in Misamis Oriental. Airbus is a global leader in providing aerospace products, services, and solutions. Airbus, Europe's largest aeronautics and space company, employs over 134,000 people and is a global leader in the aviation industry.
