BPI introduces leave donation program to strengthen a culture of care
The Bank of the Philippine Islands (BPI) continues to put people at the heart of its organization with the launch of its Leave Donation Program—an initiative that enables employees, known as Unibankers, to support colleagues facing serious and life-threatening illnesses by voluntarily donating vacation leave credits.
Launched this month, December 2025, the program establishes a centralized leave donation pool, managed by BPI’s Human Resources team. Through this initiative, employees diagnosed with any of the Bank’s 14 covered dread diseases—including cancer, stroke, major cardiac conditions, renal failure, and other critical illnesses—may apply for donated leave to help cover time away from work for treatment, confinement, or recovery.

“At BPI, we stand with our people through every challenge, and with the selfless support of our donors/teammates, we turn empathy into hope—because true care is about lifting others when they need it most,” said Gina Eala, BPI Chief Human Resource Officer. “The Leave Donation Program reflects the compassion and solidarity that define our culture. By sharing what we can, we give our colleagues the time and space they need to focus on healing, knowing they are supported by the BPI family.”

Participation in the program is voluntary and open to eligible employees during the annual donation period every December. Donated leave credits are pooled and allocated to qualified beneficiaries in the succeeding year, subject to established guidelines and medical validation.

The Leave Donation Program complements BPI’s existing employee benefits, including leave benefits, medical insurance coverage, additional cancer care leave, and other cancer care programs, reinforcing the Bank’s commitment to holistic employee well-being. More than a policy, the initiative embodies #DoMoreWithBPI, turning empathy into action and encouraging Unibankers to care for one another in meaningful ways.

Through initiatives like this, BPI continues to build a workplace grounded in compassion, resilience, and shared purpose, where employees are empowered to do more, together.
