Aboitiz Power Corporation Announces a Partnership with Thailand-Based REPCO NEX Industrial Solutions

Aboitiz Power Corporation (AboitizPower) has teamed up with Thailand-based company REPCO NEX Industrial Solutions (REPCO NEX) to launch the Philippines' first smart power plants.

The "Project Arkanghel" initiative will create digital twins for AboitizPower's current circulating fluidized bed (CFB) coal-fired power plants, the 300-megawatt Therma South Plant in Davao City and the 340-megawatt Therma Visayas Plant in Toledo City, Cebu. Both assets will act as prototypes for future deployments at additional thermal hotspots.

Digital twins are a virtual reproduction of a power plant's operational processes and systems, providing operators with a tool for simulating or stress-testing scenarios, as well as detecting defects and malfunctions earlier and in real time, all in a virtual environment.

With CFB technology already recirculating combustion for increased power generation efficiency, digital twins will improve power plant performance through data science and artificial intelligence (A.I.), allowing operators and engineers to make better decisions.

As an integrated system, a digitally equipped power plant will streamline data collection and evaluation for asset health monitoring, life cycle management, and predictive maintenance. Proactive action motivated by these insights can result in fewer scheduled and unplanned downtimes.

AboitizPower, Aboitiz Data Innovation, and REPCO NEX recently signed Project Arkanghel in Bangkok, Thailand, marking a significant milestone for the Aboitiz Group as it embarks on a journey of innovation and change that will transform the future of the Philippine energy landscape as well as Southeast Asia.
